Living on the Little Red Dot, surrounded by a concrete jungle, can feel exhausting sometimes. But did you know that from now until October 29th, 2023, you can immerse yourself in ArtScience Museum’s state of the art exhibition, “Sensory Odyssey: Into the Heart of Our Living World”?
Embark on a sensory adventure where you’ll traverse seven ecosystems and discover the stunning intricacies and vulnerabilities of Earth’s biodiversity. This might just be your chance to reconnect with nature in ways you have never been able to before.
Organised by ArtScience Museum and BASE Entertainment Asia, this exhibition was created by Paris-based Sensory Odyssey Studio in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History, France. The 2023 Asian premiere of this exhibition at ArtScience Museum marks the first stop on a planned global tour.
Hurry and grab the last tickets… The exhibition will close on 29 October 2023!
See, hear, smell and feel nature like never before!
The exhibition came to life through the combined efforts of 350 contributors from across the globe, hailing from diverse fields such as art, design, biology, engineering, software development, fragrance craftsmanship, media expertise, and even neuroscience!
It’s one thing to showcase one-of-a-kind global landscapes in stunning 8K high-definition videos, but to include specially crafted fragrances and auditory enhancements, guaranteeing an unparalleled sensory expedition for visitors? Now that’s something!
The world is your oyster.
In the beginning, there was light. Supposedly. But not at Sensory Odyssey. Before you enter the exhibit, your senses will be cleansed by going through a walkway in almost pitch darkness, which will lead you to the first installation.
From the African Savannah to the literal end of the world (don’t worry, we’re not talking about zombie apocalypses or an imagining of the end of the world), every one of the seven ecosystems engages your senses and your sense of awe and wonder!
As you embark on the journey throughout the different habitats of our planet, you are encouraged to use all your senses to experience and empathise with nature and your surroundings, and it even becomes quite an emotional journey. Suddenly, I’m wondering how this praying mantis might feel feeding on its prey at that very moment. It’s not the same as watching a documentary at home. Here, you become what you hear, see, feel, and smell. It truly lives up to its name of being a sensory odyssey.
Discover: Our Nature, Our Stories
The Sensory Odyssey exhibition ends in the Discover: Our Nature, Our Stories gallery which concludes your entire wandering with one last experience that is close to our hearts in Southeast Asia. Here, you’re provided with a recap of all seven installations you have just gone through accompanied stories and anecdotes from Singapore and beyond. Specially created videos showcase experts from the Little Red Dot who actively support our local biodiversity, participate in continuous conservation initiatives, and contribute to research that deepens our comprehension of climate change’s effects. Each video by the experts is accompanied by a touch activity, from grass to fungi to icebergs!
But that’s not all (our favourite part!)
Every visitor can help to Protect Nature’s Superheroes: The Mangroves. In the last gallery there are little paper leaves where you can write down an action you will take in support of nature to then add to the wall of leaves. Each leaf added actively supports the planting of actual mangrove trees in Malaysia , in collaboration with WWF Singapore. By simply making a pledge, you are helping to restore and steward mangrove trees and rebuild the communities’ livelihoods. Your action today, creates the mangrove forest of tomorrow! It’s weirdly poignant to read through people’s reflections on the exact same exhibition you’ve just been to! It highlights the fact that Sensory Odyssey is more than just an art exhibition; it is a journey through your senses and emotions.
