WHY THEY’RE CONSCIOUS

Etrican is the big mama of sustainable brands in Singapore as it is one of the pioneering organisations that started to spread the word out about ethical fashion in Singapore.

From dyeing to bleaching and finishing, the cotton value chain uses a massive amount of chemicals that jeopardize our soil worldwide.

Dye houses, especially in emerging countries such as India, Bangladesh etc. constitute a major environmental and social threat due to water waste dumped into rivers and exhausting water supplies for villagers around. This is what Etrican is fighting against by using and promoting organic cotton.

Their cotton is certified by the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) organisation. This globally recognised certification lays out comprehensive rules for ecological and socially responsible textile production.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Yumiko Uno, Co-Founder & Design

Yumiko is Etrican’s head of Design and Production. She holds a BA in International Studies and an MA in Development Studies from the University of Leeds, UK. Before starting Etrican Yumiko worked in the fashion industry in Tokyo for several labels including People Tree Japan, one of the pioneers of sustainable fashion.

Dragos Necula, Co-Founder & Business Development

Dragos is leading the Business Development activities for Etrican. He is the holder of a BSc Degree in Cognitive Science from the University of Leeds, UK. Romanian at the origin, he has lived and worked in several different countries, including China and Norway and Japan, before moving to Singapore to start Etrican.
