Greenwashing & Natural Beauty: Behind the Brand with Wendee Lee

Have you ever thought that it actually takes years, sometimes even decades, for trees to grow before they can be harvested? So how can so many brands claim they are using natural ingredients?

We spoke to natural beauty expert Wendee Lee, founder of Biconi, a Natural & Vegan Beauty local brand to get the low down. With her father being diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, Wendee found herself waking up and actually taking a look at the lifestyle that she was having, the kind of food she was eating and what she was putting on to her skin.

She started Biconi with little to no knowledge of the beauty world, she decided to jump in with both feet (Kudos to her!). She started off with trying to find out as much information as she could can on just about anything that relates to natural beauty. At the same time, she found out that there’s a lot of contradiction on the internet especially on what’s right, what you could do. A common struggle we all face, what’s good and what’s not for your skin. Who should we believe and why? Frustrated and annoyed like all of, she decided to actually do something about it and go back to school to study organic cosmetic science because knowledge is power!

“There is actually a lot of green washing in the industry about what is actually natural and
what isn’t.  If you think about it,it takes years and years and years for a tree to actually grow and mature before you can actually harvest it. There are a lot of brands who actually can justify low price tag but is really not sustainable if you are using true natural plant ingredients.
