KNOWN FOR
Culturally centred, ethically handmade homewares and baskets from Africa.
ABOUT THE BRANDÂ
GreenieGenie prides in curating homewares which are nature-friendly, socially empowered and culturally centred. Behind every product, is an artisan, either honing skills passed down through generations or practising new skills learned. Every “Greenie” sold, symbolises the presence of a “Genie” to these artisans and their families, in helping to improve their livelihood and enable education to their children.
WHY THEY’RE CONSCIOUS
GreenieGenie works with maker groups in Senegal, Kenya and Ghana to bring in their intricately handwoven baskets and hand-carved wooden utensils.
Native wild grasses are harvested by the makers and weaved with plastics upcycled from prayer mats, using skills passed down by generations, retaining their rich culture and traditions. Offcuts from the furniture factories are salvaged and reused to carve into salad bowls and salad servers. The maker groups they work with are Fair Trade certified, with a workplace that is conducive for the makers and fair wage paid to ensure they are compensated fairly for the products made.
They believe that by working with such maker groups and helping the artisans in improving their livelihood, they are also supporting environmentally sustainable practices and securing the future for generations to come.
WHAT’S THEIR FIGHTÂ
POWER TO THE PEOPLE: Their production is fair trade and they support artisans by giving them fair employment enabling education for their children
PROTECT THE PLANET: They upcycle and reuse materials that would originally end up as waste
