KNOWN FOR
Quality and eco-friendly handmade products.
ABOUT THE BRAND
At Purnama, they want to create quality handmade products that do better; for the local communities, for the environment and for the world. Purnama creates rare and unique lifestyle-products that are bold and edgy for the new, urban human being. Locally produced, eco-friendly and socially conscious.
WHY THEY’RE CONSCIOUS
Purnama Outreach is a social enterprise geared towards making a meaningful difference in the lives of women and children in Asia by creating unique products that produce livelihood and education through environmentally conscious, sustainable practices.
Through their Pokhara collection, they help provide local Nepali women with work
and education. The women in their program are taught English and additional life skills as well as handcrafting their products whilst being supplied a fair wage. Through their involvement with the Pokhara collection, they hope to build up the women and communities of Nepal. All of their weaving cotton products are naturally dyed as well.
Through their Java Collection, they aim to empower local Indonesian artists and inspire water conversation throughout Indonesia. The dumping of car tyres is rampant throughout Indonesia and through their upcycling project, they aim to create a more eco-friendly society through their products.
Through their Fight For Education Collection, 100 Percent of the Profit from the sale of their products will go towards their education of children in Indonesia, Thailand and Nepal.
WHAT’S THEIR FIGHT
PROTECT THE PLANET: They use upcycled materials for their products as well as natural dyes.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE: Through the sale of their products, they support local communities including women and children.
ABOUT THE FOUNDERS
Rae & Charles’ sustainable and ethical design journey started from their relocation to Singapore in 2008. The husband and wife team have always been involved in giving back to the community in their home state of Texas, U.S.A. Within few months in Singapore, they were eager to find ways in “directly” sponsoring the education of children-in-need in the region. As they continued to travel around Asia, they noticed that there were plenty of opportunities to support others. They wanted to give an opportunity to others and that’s how they decided to support those in need to integrate into the society through the sale of their products.
