Hello July. Start this new month on a high with the global #PlasticFreeJuly movement and take a stand to #beatplasticpollution. Besides that, ever heard of sustainable cocktails? You would want to get a piece of this. From drone deliveries to wasted make-up, green innovation is on a roll this week.
Here are 5 interesting things you need to know that’s happening in sustainability around the world over the past week.
1. Drones – the new delivery person.
Delivery drones are going to revolutionise the delivery industry. Delivery trucks, if orders are not consolidated and optimised, can result in large amounts of inefficiency and carbon emissions. It has been tried and tested that these drones are overtaking trucks in terms of feasibility, sustainability and also efficiency.
Maybe we’ll soon have our meals delivered to us by drones.
2. Sustainable cocktails, both Insta-worthy and eco-friendly
What are sustainable cocktails really? These are cocktails that are out to spice your day and also save the world. These are drinks that seek to incorporate nature into drinks by minimizing resource use, conserving energy and prevent wastage. These drinks are sometimes created with ingredients that might otherwise be thrown away. Who wouldn’t love a good Earth-saving cocktail?
It’s gotta be 5 o’clock somewhere in the world.
3. An eco Icelandic festival of action and ceremony.
Check out this 4-day eco-social festival in the South of Iceland. With a name meaning both action an ceremony, this festival “Athöfn” provides a platform for individuals to come learn about permaculture and work on pet projects with resource and knowledge support. It’s not just all party, it’s a place to celebrate change, fun, nature, and innovation.
This is a nature-lover’s maker space dream.
4. #PlasticFreeJuly: the what, why and how
Every piece of plastic that is ever manufactured still exists in the world in some form or another today. Plastics are long lasting and they bring so much convenience, yet so much harm. This July, join the global movement for a #PlasticFreeJuly. How? You can find out here with us. But read on here to find out how much Asia contributes to the global plastic problem.
Here’s’a hint, it’s a lot.
5. Turning makeup into watercolour paints
We go through make-up like crazy. Not because we finish using them, but we hog tons and tons of them. But one person surely can’t go through it all, and many of it go to waste. What happens then? Design student, Ameena Begum, is turning wasted make-up into sustainable watercolour paints. Turning waste into beautiful mediums for art, this innovation is sure a colourful one.
What an idea.
