Judee Tan’s Big Break-up…with Plastic! #RecyclemoreWasteless

Singapore throws an estimated 2.2 million straws away every single day.

That’s more than enough plastic to circle our entire island…twice. And if that’s not enough to shock you, here’s another fact: Singaporean supermarkets alone give out 2 million plastic bags per day. That’s over 820 million plastic bags from grocery stores, daily. We’re swimming in our own sea of plastic, and it’s surrounding us, suffocating us, and quite frankly, scary.

Which is why we’ve teamed up with both DBS and Judee Tan to help everyone on this island break up the most toxic relationship they’ve ever had: single-use plastic. The time is now. Every second counts in our effort to create a more sustainable future for ourselves and for the next generation.

So what’s a bank got to do with plastic?

DBS has always prided itself on being a purpose-driven company that creates impact beyond banking. With their nose for innovation, they’re always embracing changes that add value to people’s lives; Whether it be through their support of Asian social enterprises through the DBS Foundation, the bank’s People of Purpose volunteer programmes or through their sustainability efforts and ongoing #RecyclemoreWasteless Campaign, they’re living proof that small changes can make the biggest difference in our lives.

In fact, they’re so committed to their efforts to save the world that they’re giving you a FREE spork to help you start your conscious living journey in style. All you have to do is take a photo/video pledge demonstrating your commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle your single-use plastics around food consumption, post your photo/video to Facebook or Instagram with #RecyclemoreWasteless. Ensure your post is set to public so everyone can see it! And then lastly, visit these participating locations to receive a free Spork*from DBS for every pledge (limited to one per person!). It’s that easy; the beginning of the end of your relationship with single-use plastic is nigh.

This year at The Conscious Festival The TALKS are Powered by DBS! Feed your mind, green your life and empower yourself.

Who’s the babe in the video?

Judee Tan, a comedic firecracker and much-beloved actress, host, writer, and director has decided once and for all to end the worst relationship of her life and start being the greenest version of herself that she can be. Although she is best known as Kim Bong Cha (The Noose, Mediacorp Ch5) on TV, as the well-loved Dr Teo Chew Moi (Happy Ever Laughter series, Dream Academy®) and as Ivory Low Ai Kiu (Chestnuts series, STAGES) in our local theatre scene, she hopes that by taking #LittleGreenSteps and trying to #RecyclemoreWasteless today, she’ll be able to inspire everyone around her to help save the Earth, too.

#LittleGreenSteps you can do today!

We’re all about living our best lives, living more and wasting less. Which means cutting out everything bad for us and our well-being, making small changes that add up and creating less waste. Here are a few green steps you can take today:

  2. Bring your own takeaway containers
  3. Say NO to disposable cutlery
  4. Upcycle old glass jars to store food
  5. Buy refillable products such as laundry detergents and pens

It’s easy, right? We have even more tips for you on how you can break up with plastic in this video. And in less than two weeks, we’re having The Conscious Festival 2018, where you can come stock up on reusable essentials to help you live sustainably, ethically and yet completely comfortably.
