Australia Day Bushfire Fundraiser: Join Us For Dinner, Drinks & Fun. Who’s In?

Australia is burning. And the fires are leaving a path of destruction and devastation in their wake. With an estimated one billion animals lost, thousands of homes destroyed, people displaced, fires the size of Manhattan, and at least 28 people losing their lives – Australia needs our help.

In partnership with Kilo Kitchen, and thanks to generous support from Collectius, the GITNB team have organised a fundraiser dinner on Australia Day weekend to raise money for the affected communities and wildlife rescue.  Join us this Saturday, 25 January 2020, for an evening of delicious food, drinks, and wild entertainment, all in the name of charity. We’ve been blown away by the support of our community: everyone involved is donating or sponsoring their time, food, drinks, talent, products, prizes so that all funds raised will be donated.

A huge thank you to Collectius, our corporate partner; it has already pledged S$10,000 to the cause. Now, it’s over to us to raise as much as we can to match that and more. Gustav Eriksson, Group CEO, shares “The team at Collectius felt compelled to support the Aussies living through this disaster. We can’t even begin to imagine the terrifying reality of fire burning people’s homes and dangerous smoke in the air as they breathe. The devastating situation, the urgency of wildlife preservation, and the call for emergency aid is loud and clear; and we want to be there.”

So what’s the plan?

We’re talking about food, drinks, and wild entertainment. Tickets are $115 and include a four-course vegetarian feast, an assortment of drinks (three per person), and entry into our epic raffle with over $4000 worth of prizes up for grabs. Don’t forget – all money raised from ticket sales will be donated directly to our chosen charities. Get your tickets here (psssst..! Hurry, tickets are selling quickly).

The food and drink situation

The incredible team at Kilo Kitchen are in charge of food and curated this 4-course vegetarian feast:

To nibble: Kilo’s mezze platter. A selection of grilled fermented potato focaccia, raw cucumbers, garlic confit and adobo dip, kalamata olives, tzatziki, wood-fired marinated peppers, wood-fired baba ganoush, dukkah marinated burnt carrots, miso hummus, Lebanese tabouleh and pinenuts.
To start: zucchini cream soup, cotija cheese, leek oil and roasted pistachios.
The main event: Kilo’s Impossible Meatballs. Confit tomatoes sauce, mala oil, sourdough bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, crispy potatoes, fresh basil & oregano
The sweet part: chocolate terrine. Crispy tuiles and smoked caramel

Wash that all down with a selection of wines from Merci Marcel, or wet your whistle with tequila and cocktails from Código 1530 Tequila, beers from C R U S T, or refreshing kombucha from Bushwick – Singapore’s Original Kombucha. Each ticket includes three complimentary drinks, so pick your plonk wisely.

The entertainment

Prepare to be dazzled courtesy of our outrageously brilliant drag entertainment from Lykkie Liquor & Mona Kee Kee.  Get involved with a spot of intention setting thanks to the inspiring team from Stage 6. Then party on with a live DJ set from Oliver Osborne and David Carollo.

We’ve got a ton of prizes up for grabs

Each ticket bought includes a raffle ticket, but you can buy extra if you’re feeling lucky. Even if you can’t attend the event, you can still purchase raffle tickets here, with all cash raised heading straight to our chosen charities. What’s up for grabs? All of this lot.

The charities

We have chosen to support two fantastic charities helping both people and wildlife directly.

FRRR: The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal supports bushfire-affected communities. The road to recovery for these communities is long, with varied and complex challenges unique to each town. These communities will need support long after the smoke clears, and the emergency relief money is gone. This fund ensures that donated funds reach grassroots community organisations across rural, regional and remote Australia, who often miss out on receiving disaster donations. FRRR makes grants to local not-for-profit groups for community-led projects that address the most pressing needs. All grant recipients have to report back on how they used the money and what they achieved. You can read more here about its incredible work.

Wildlife Victoria: Provides a vital link for the community between sick, injured and orphaned Australian wildlife and the appropriate response and care needed. Donations to their Victorian bushfire appeal will be distributed to wildlife shelters and carers to help rebuild enclosures and equipment that they have lost in the fires so that they can continue their lifesaving work, and support those that are struggling to cope with the enormous number of animals that will need care in the coming weeks and months. If you’d like to find out more, take a look here.

If you would like to understand more about the fires, read our guide here.

We hope you can join us for our fundraiser. Get your tickets or donate here.
