Living consciously isn’t always about being the most “green” person. It’s also about learning how to think more consciously. It all starts from the mind after all… No, we are not telling you to become a hippie, just simply to become conscious about being conscious. That’s a lot of conscious.
If you’re like.. man what are these guys on about! Here’s a nice quote from Earth911 to sum it up: “Before you can become truly green and environmentally responsible, you must first recognize the power of the surrounding environment. The value of the earth and its resources isn’t immediately clear to most people, especially if you live in a big city where emissions and pollution seem to be the status quo. Bad habits can be changed, however. By practicing some mindful principles, you can develop an environmental appreciation and find your inner peace.”
If you want to have a better mindset the secret is repetition, repetition, repetition. The way I look at is it that you are basically re-wiring you brain after however many years you’ve been alive, to think and react differently. And as they say – practice makes perfect.
You have two hands. One to help yourself, the second to help the planet!
Start with a few steps to help improve your well-being and state of mind. Before you know, that beautiful mind of yours can take even more steps to #livemoreconsciously.
Here are a few #LittleGreenSteps to get you started:
-
#PauseForWellness. PAUSE is an initiative by The Wellness Report to encourage slow-living and how one should Pause For Wellness. Every month is the beginning of a new cycle – a time to rest, time and space to plant seeds of intention, reflect and work towards current and new opportunity. Find out more here. It’s that time of the month again!
-
Stay connected with nature. Get out of the house outside and sink your bare feet into the grass (wherever you can find it in our “Green City”). Feel the living connection with life all around you and learn to open up to something that’s much bigger than yourself. Nature quiets your mind, opens your heart and eases your body. Let your inner hippie out and Live Wide Awake with mother nature.
-
Try Minimalism, less is more. Living minimally with fewer material possessions can help you in finding freedom from the trappings of the consumer culture we’ve built our lives around. De-cluttering our lifestyle is a positive step not just for our well-being but for our planet as well. Not convinced? Watch The Minimalists and you will be. It’s on Netflix!

Morning reflections and quiet time. Spend 5 minutes in the mornings to be with yourself with meditation and gratitude. Something as simple breathing in 10 times while focusing on your breath can calm your mind and get it focused for the rest of the day. Getting into a habit of being grateful first thing in the morning with The 5 Minute Journal(US$22.96) by An Uplifted Day or just write down 3 things that you are grateful for in the morning. Great way to start your days… just breathe.
-
Ditch the negative self-talk. When you change your internal dialogue, you have the power to change your life. Start creating new positive messages instead and reinforce them every day. Just stop already, you’re amazing!
Work on yourself first, because you’re worth it.
