Lockdown Eats: Plant-Based Food Delivery & Veggie Box Ideas

Since the start of the COVID-19 circuit breaker, mealtimes have swiftly become the highlight of our days. And if you aren’t a vegan or vegetarian, with all this extra time on our hands now is the perfect time to experiment with more plant-based recipes. If cooking isn’t your thing, explore some of our favourite restaurants providing a delivery service. And if it is, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite organic and sustainable farms supplying fruit and vegetable boxes.

The bad news is the circuit-breaker lockdown in Singapore is in place until June 1. The good news is we’ve compiled all of our favourite plant-based food delivery options in Singapore to get you through the next month. While we have little control over where we can go and what we can do, we can take control of our diets. And consuming fewer animal products is one way to keep things sustainable at home. Bored with your cooking? Here are some takeout options to explore. And if you’re not, support some of our local, organic farmers by ordering in a box of fresh produce.

Restaurant delivery

We recently compiled a mammoth round-up of our favourite vegan and vegetarian (and non-veg with solid plant-based options) restaurants. Most of these are still open for home delivery. If you start now, you might be able to work through them all by the end of the circuit breaker!

Sustenir Agriculture

Sustenir Agriculture champions sustainable vertical farming. It grows several types of kale, strawberries, rocket, and other leafy greens, plus it makes kale pesto and healthy green juices too. Its mission is to change food for good by growing impossible produce in impossible places. How? By adopting sustainable methods it uses 95% less water than traditional farming, and it uses tech to ensure its energy consumption stays lower than industry standards. We approve.

Shiok Farm

Inspired by the French community-supported agriculture model, it’s a genius concept. (Sidenote: you have to commit to six months. However, you will be supporting small, local farmers and reducing food waste by around 40%). In a nutshell, it works by gathering a small group of people together and telling a farmer they will buy all of their produce. The organic fruit and veggies will be delivered directly from the farm each week. What you’ll receive is a mystery depending on what’s in season at the time. Eat local, eat seasonally, and waste nothing; it doesn’t get more sustainable than that.
