After almost 7 years in Kampong Glam, a 2nd store at Isetan on Scotts, 2 yoga retreats and various sustainability talks & initiatives, Touch The Toes has decided to move on to new adventures. And so it’s with sadness, tinged with anticipation, that they have announced the closure of TTT on Sunday, 25th February 2018. We are sad to see them go but are so excited for them to move on to bigger and better things.
As a farewell from us, we’d like to celebrate the two people that made this happen and all their amazing victories in the past 6.5 years. We’ll miss you both Wuen and Eliza!
When you’re doing yoga, omm-ing and namaste-ing, have you thought about where your clothes have come from? Before they get to us, our clothes have had a life of their own – and have had an impact on the people and the planet. We spoke to Touch The Toes Co-Founders Eliza & Wuen, a one-stop eco-friendly activewear shop, about conscious materials, generational habits and how we can make more change together!
6 years ago, Wuen and Eliza teamed up to set up the first Eco-Conscious yoga store in Singapore. Touch The Toes not only brought in brands that use environmentally friendly fabrics but also created stories behind the brand. Nowadays, with social media and digital marketing, the awareness about the fashion industry and it impacts on the planet has grown so much since they first started. They’ve noticed that more and more locals are becoming a part of this movement of conscious consumerism, especially us millennials, yay!
3 things they looked for in the brands they curated at their shop is finding the harmony between 1) functionality & design 2) sustainability and 3) ethical practice. They also broke myths around sustainable fashion like the fact that most people believe that cotton is the most environmentally friendly fabric out there but the majority of cotton is highly water-intensive and uses tons of pesticides. Instead, consider organic cotton, Tencel and recycled polyester & nylon.
“There are 600,040 tonnes of plastic fishing nets in our oceans. Recycled Nylon takes a chunk of that and recycles them into clothes!” – Wuen Tan
Wuen and Eliza are both part of our Green Warriors, check them out here.
In this interview with them, we spoke about:
> The consumer climate around conscious shopping & yoga in Singapore
> Which fabrics to look for and which to avoid
> How us as a community can change our mindset and put sustainability in the forefront when we buy clothes
Try out Wuen and Eliza’s Little Green Steps:

- 2) Research the brands you buy and vote with your wallet.
- 3) Quality over quality! Spend more on timeless pieces that have a longer life cycle and don’t end up in landfills easily.
