Sustainable Bathroom Swaps To Green Your Morning Routine

Half-empty serums loaded with toxic synthetic elements, cleansers mass-produced by faceless corporations and tubes of moisturisers with missing lids everywhere. Does that sound like your bathroom right now? You’re not alone; even we’re guilty of it. But that all changed when we serendipitously stumbled upon ZeroYet100 and its handcrafted natural deodorant, which contains nothing synthetic yet is totally effective. #GameChanger

I’m the first person to admit that my bathroom isn’t as green as I’d like it to be. Sometimes I stumble upon a new eco-friendly product that everyone in my community (ahem, team Green Is The New Black) is raving about, and I have to remind myself that being conscious isn’t about ditching what you have for alternatives — even if they are better for you and the planet. Conscious living is about making better choices one #LittleGreenStep at a time, and in this instance, for me, it started with being patient and using up what I already had — let’s not be wasteful! Following a one-in-one-out rule also helped keep my bathroom (and my wallet) in check.

But there’s something else I have to admit — I’ve had a hard time letting go of my bougie skincare regimen (looking at you La Mer softening cream). Luxury just feels a little better, sometimes. Fortunately, there are a few people who are with me, and by solving their problems, they solved mine. I’m talking about ZeroYet100, a brand founded on the principle that natural is better. Each formulation uses ingredients derived from nature with potent innate properties. What that means is they’re free of nasties like toxic and harmful chemicals, and its ingredient list is transparent and pure. Thus, nothing toxic but totally effective – and ultimately luxurious. These are the items that got us started when swapping out our bathrooms towards a greener morning routine.

DEODORANT

ZeroYet100 deodorant

Switching to a natural deodorant was paramount, but it was hard to find one that worked. And it was on this treasure hunt that I stumbled upon ZeroYet100 — and its first product. Created in 2015 out of a frustration with the lack of adequate and clean deodorants on the market, founders Sheetal and Anita took it upon themselves to create a solution that met their standards. Today they make four different types of natural deodorant: a spray, a pot, a push-up stick (which is ideal for sweaty peeps who are sensitive to fragrances) and a twist-up stick. All come in a variety of scents like spa, woods, refresh and snow. And all naturally neutralise odour and absorb wetness while keeping you free from stains, irritations, and grease. The range is vegan, paragon free chemical-free, aluminium free, 90% plastic-free packaging and not tested on animals. And it’s luxe to the max. IS THERE ANYTHING MORE YOU COULD EVER WANT FROM A DEODORANT?

WASH POWDER

ZeroYet100 moisturiser and Face wash powder

You read that right. Say goodbye to cleansers which are neither good for your skin nor the environment. It’s time to welcome wash powder into your life. This  Brightening Face Wash Powder contains twelve powerful, all-natural ingredients that make your skin glow from within by gently buffing away dead skin cells. The formula purifies and hydrates to cleanse and nourish your skin deeply. All you need to do is add water and make a paste, making it perfect for use as a mask, too. Made from a mix of clay and flower extracts, brace yourself for a divine sensory experience. And if you’re a frequent traveller, wash powder is an excellent alternative to liquids when it comes to weight limits and security at the airport. When you’re done with a package, send it back to ZeroYet100 to be recycled — the true definition of zero-waste.

MOISTURISER

When I dug a little deeper into the brand, I discovered it had a moisturiser that plumped and doubled as a sunscreen. So I caved and indulged immediately. The Day Face Moisturiser is teeming with antioxidant-rich ingredients like green tea leaves. It nourishes your skin, prevents hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and even acne. Rosemary extract soothes any congestion, frankincense combats acne, and thanks to hyaluronic acid, your skin stays super soft. Consider it #damagecontrol in a small, recyclable pot.

BODY OIL

ZeroYet100 Body Oil

Remember, baby oil is for babies; you deserve better. This multi-purpose oil is perfect for your skin, hair, nails, and everywhere in between. Some people like to drop it in their bath or moisturiser for some extra fun. The oils are also fast-absorbing, which means more glow than grease with the only shine coming from within. Using a blend of squalene oil mixed with vitamin e and coconut, this triumvirate of power ingredients is the epitome of luxury. And since the bottle is so damn cute, you can repurpose it as a little vase, create an oil blend yourself, or send it back to recycle.

BODY SCRUB

If you’ve never used a body scrub made from coffee, I’m sorry. But once you do, I promise that you’ll never look at another tube of St. Ives Body Scrub again. The Glow Getter Body Scrub is our bathroom swap of choice. It’s full of Robusta coffee which not only exfoliates the skin but also removes bacteria and increases blood flow circulation, which is also a dream for stretch marks and signs of ageing (we can thank caffeine for that). But the showstopper is the subtle shimmer it leaves behind so you can glow inside and out. Pssssst, this also makes a lush massage oil, ahem.
