Samata Pattinson | CEO, Red Carpet Green Dress (she/her)

For tirelessly working to mainstream sustainable fashion and design

The sustainability conversation in fashion has been around for what feels like a while now, but back in 2011, it wasn’t discussed often. Samata Pattinson, was what you’d call an “early adopter”. In 2011, she joined Red Carpet Green Dress as Campaign Director and rose through the ranks to Vice President, and in 2019, became the CEO. Her vision for Red Carpet Green Dress focuses today on the expansion of RCGD’s global presence, a long-standing exclusive partnership with The Academy (popularly known as the Oscars), ongoing collaborations creating accessible sustainable products for the world (working with impact brands and sustainable retail), and education with a focus on the youth, creating entertaining and educational digital content focused around sustainable fashion.

Samata’s work with RCGD has kept the organisation relevant and innovative. She’s formed brand partnerships with Tesla, Vivienne Westwood, Louis Vuitton, and Swarovski. She believes that collaboration and innovation is the way to move forward in sustainable fashion, and this belief guides her work as she continues to spearhead the creation of collaborations and solutions to bring sustainable fashion to the mainstream while working tirelessly to address the challenges and changing requirements of RCGD’s global partners and supporters.

Passionate about making sustainable fashion (and more specifically, sustainable design) more accessible, Samata, through her work within and outside of RCGD, is constantly building sustainable design tools for the average citizen. She’s even authored a book: The Fashion Designer’s Resource Book, a fashion resource and lifestyle book that provides a comprehensive overview of the fashion industry as a business, combined with an insider’s understanding of the creative process and the lifestyle of a fashion entrepreneur. It’s a book that’s for emerging designers, fashion students, or anyone who’s curious—it, of course, talks about environmentally and socially responsible fashion too.

Samata also works in the realm of inspiring and empowering women: she’s most recently found THE TRIBE™, a movement and collective that brings together phenomenal women to inspire, encourage and support each other. She’s also created a supporting Empowerment Journal, a 432-page uplifting and unloading space, full of through-provoking self-care content, inspiring users to pause, reflect, and ideate. It isn’t meant to tell women how to be great—it’s to remind them that they already are.
