ABOUT THE BRAND
Over the last 52 years, PizzaExpress has grown to over
600 restaurants in 14 countries around the world and arrived in Hong Kong in 2001. They now have a network of 22 unique restaurants and the business employs over 800 team members serving handcrafted authentically Italian pizzas in an exceptionally stylish environment.
Their mission is simple: doing their part in making Hong Kong a happier place by consistently delivering excellent and innovative food, combined with an equally heavy focus on social and environmental responsibility. This principle has always been at the heart of PizzaExpress, setting the brand apart as the ‘go to’ pizza restaurant in Hong Kong.

WHY THEY’RE CONSCIOUS
PizzaExpress Hong Kong has always served up business responsibly. Since opening its first Hong Kong restaurant in Central Soho Square in 2001, the restaurant always had at its heart the best interests of the local community and has been mindful of its impact on the environment. By introducing a Green Code across all their restaurants, they aim to reduce their impact on the environment through educating their staff about the conscious use of energy (including keeping air conditioning at efficient settings), saying ‘no’ to single-use plastics (with all their pizza boxes and re-usable bags made from biodegradeable materials) and their ‘no straw’ policy (one of the first in Hong Kong).
They re-use fresh dough at the end of the evening and bake this into flatbreads to be redistributed to communities in Hong Kong via foodbank, Feeding Hong Kong. Glass is recycled across their restaurants and they have recently introduced donation bins for unwanted clothes and non-perishable foods at their new Sai Yin Pun restaurant. They carefully source their ingredients including sustainable fish, vegan cheese, local hydroponic vegetables and exciting plant-based alternatives including Beyond Chicken. They take care to ensure their suppliers have the same environmental principles as they do. PizzaExpress has also been actively supporting the Green Monday campaign since it was launched in Hong Kong.  They encourage their diners to think smart, at least one day a week and avoid meat, in order to help protect the environment.

WHAT’S THEIR FIGHT
PROTECT THE PLANET: They are committed to being mindful and reducing their impact on the planet, from sustainable sourcing to energy consumption to no single-use plastic.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE: They prioritize their employees and the community with various programs, from their internal Green Code to external with Feeding Hong Kong and recycling/collection programs from clothes to non-perishable food.

WHAT THEY’RE WORKING ON
“We are all on a mission to make this world a better place”, explains John Lui, International Brand Manager at PizzaExpress. “PizzaExpress has always enjoyed serving pizza responsibly and having fun doing it. We want to do things better and we want to take our guests on this journey with us, as we continually explore ways to provide diners with thoughtful alternatives at the same time as leaving a lighter touch on our precious planet.”

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

In 1965, when Peter Boizot opened the doors to the first PizzaExpress in Soho, London he revolutionised eating out in the UK. True to the pizza he had tasted in his travels throughout Italy, Peter served expertly crafted pizza using a secret dough recipe and a festival of carefully selected quality ingredients, and Peter would always enjoy his pizza with wine! Peter’s passion for pizza is still central to PizzaExpress, and the care and attention he put into the food and ambiance are still principles that they live by today.
