KNOWN FOR

Making shoes out of tyres in a socially and environmentally responsible way.

ABOUT THE BRAND

There is a massive amount of tyre waste in the world, and it’s nearly impossible for tyres to decompose. In many countries, they end up in landfill, in stockyards, illegal dumping sites, and even rivers. In tropical countries tyres can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which lead to nasty diseases like malaria and dengue fever. In many countries, they’re burned, leading to toxic oils and fumes. Enter Indosole, repurposing these indestructible tyres into soles of some of the most durable footwear around.

VISION & MISSION

Vision: To be the most responsible footwear company in the world – a sustainable, conscious brand with soul and authenticity, providing solutions to address circular economy footwear production at the same time as mass-scale landfill reduction.

Mission: On a quest to save 1 million tyres from landfills, Indosole is giving them new life as the soles of their everyday footwear.

WHY THEY’RE CONSCIOUS

Indosole is a certified B Corporation – one of nearly 3,000 companies using business as a force for good. Their certification in 2014 is proof that they meet the rigorous standards of social and environmental performance required by the nonprofit B Lab. They are transparent with their operations, routinely providing glimpses of their production process on their social media platforms. They have built continuous relationships based on respect and trust with the original suppliers and artisans employed since the brands humble beginnings.

WHAT’S THEIR FIGHT

POWER TO THE PEOPLE: Their Indo workshop is professional (staffed by professional adult artisans), safe (sanitary, safe and abundant with natural light) and healthy (a positive environment with music and laughter).

PROTECT THE PLANET: They think environmentalism is fun. Because it means working towards continuing to have fun and live a full life in a clean and beautiful world – swim and play in clean oceans, walk and play in clean forests, see and hear wildlife, eat and nourish ourselves with clean food grown in non-toxic soils.

INNOVATION FOR GOOD: They aim to continue innovating their process and contributing to finding solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems such as tyres ending up in landfill or being burned to create toxic air that we breathe.

ABOUT THE FOUNDERS

Indosole Singapore’s Jennifer Gregory is a self-confessed eco-junkie who often [gently] imposes her recommendations for living with less and making changes for good upon her family and friends. Her move to Singapore, from Australia, in 2017 accelerated her mission to seek out businesses and people with a strong ethos of sustainability, after seeing the excessive use of single-use plastics, endless streams of litter, and how little recycling was done of it all.

It was a chance meeting with Kyle Parsons, founder and CEO of Indosole, at the opening of the flagship store in Canggu, Bali, on it’s opening day that led Jennifer down the path of bringing Indosole to Singapore. Her enthusiasm to help spread the word of using #businessforgood and Indosole’s incredible capacity to create massive positive impact through their environmental stewardship brought together likeminds and a vision for an even brighter future.
