For building towards more a sustainable world, one blueprint at a time
How do we build back better? Literally—that’s the question that’s on Jason Pomeroy’s mind. A multi-award-winning architect, academic, author (and TV host), Jason is widely recognised as one of the world’s foremost experts on environmental and sustainable architecture. His projects are pretty much all over the world: his career has spanned Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and includes notable projects like energy-efficient homes that use solar panels and rainwater captured from the roof to produce electricity.
Not only will you find his work in real life, but you’ll also find his words written into entire books too. Jason is the author of Idea House: Future Tropical Living Now (a chronological journey in the creation of the first carbon zero house in Southeast Asia), The Skycourt and Skygarden: Greening the Urban Habitat (a book about skycourts and skygardens as ‘alternative social spaces’ to reclaim the “public”), Pod Off-Grid: Explorations into Low Energy Waterborne Cultures (an exploration of self-sustaining communities on water that push toward zero-energy), and Cities of Opportunities: Linking Society and Creativity (a book about how to build cities of tomorrow).
Beyond that, Jason also lectures globally and is a professor at the University of Nottingham and James Cook University, and teaches sustainable urbanism in Cambridge University’s IDBE programme. As a TV host, Jason also brings the importance of sustainable built and urban environments to the big screen and to everyday people, with his television series: “Smart Cities 2.0”, “City Time Traveller”, “Futuropolis” and “City Redesign”. He’s given speeches too on these topics at international conferences and events such as TED, the World Knowledge Forum, and the World Architecture Festival.
And as if all of that isn’t impressive enough, Jason’s also established, in 2012, Pomeroy Studio: a sustainable urbanism, architecture, construction, and research company headquartered in Singapore, which aims to build people-centred environments that are sustainable, and culturally, spatially, and technologically adaptive. Sustainability, of course, is at the heart of all this. Something that he carries through to Pomeroy Academy, which he founded to offer environmental training and educational courses to the built environment industry, to make sure that builders and architects everywhere have the skills needed to build us towards the sustainable world we need.
